Puerto Rico, nestled in the beautiful Caribbean Sea, is called the Island of Enchantment with good reason. In spite of being such a tiny island, this earthly paradise is known the world over for its immense cultural contributions in the realms of literature, cinema, music, drama, visual art, science, food, and so much more.
We believe that NorthAmeriCon ’17 will be a great opportunity for fans and pros to reach out to an under-appreciated community in speculative fiction while showcasing Puerto Rican fandom as an exhilarating and creative part of global fandom ready to show what it can do!
Amazing facilities, a vibrant culture, a welcoming fandom, and a unique location make San Juan the perfect city for a NASFiC. On top of that, there’s beaches, sunsets, world-class dining, and an active nightlife. Here’s a few more reasons why San Juan is absolutely ideal as the host city to the 12th North American Science Fiction Convention:
- An active SF/F community, including fans and pros.
- World class cultural and recreational opportunities including World Heritage and National Historic Sites, the Arecibo Radio Telescope, and the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Park Service.
- Puerto Rico is a US Commonwealth, so US citizens don’t need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico, English is an official language, and the US dollar, US Postal Service, and your cell phone work just like in the mainland US.
- With more than 2,000 flights per week on more than 20 airlines, Puerto Rico is less than five hours from Chicago and less than four from New York.
We know that we’re doing something fantastic here on a year that is already expanding the global status of fandom and it will only get better. As such, we invite you to join us at NorthAmeriCon ’17, the 12th North American Science Fiction Convention, in San Juan, Puerto Rico from July 6-9, 2017 and join us on the Island of Enchantment when we host one of the best NASFiCs in fandom history!
